ORGANIZATION: THE BEACON

  • 44 people are interested

BEACON Law needs attorneys, paralegals, and law students who are interested in donating their time and services to help advocate for the homeless community. This incudes representing homeless and impoverished clients before government agencies and courts of law, helping to resolve legal issues, and connecting them with resources that exist to help the poor.

Description

Who We Are

THE BEACON is an organization designed to assist Houston's homeless population. Our success is driven through our four core programs: The Beacon Day Center, Cathedral Clinic at The Beacon, Brigid's Hope at The Beacon, and Beacon Law. These four programs come together under one roof to provide meals, showers, laundry service, medical and psychiatric care, pro bono legal services, pastoral care and next step services to our neighbors in need. THE BEACON is the main entry point for supportive housing to Houston's Homeless through it's Coordinated Access hub, The Way Home Program.

The Day Center at The Beacon is open Thur, Fri, Sat, Sun and Mon from 7AM - 2PM. Our services are 85% volunteer driven so without 30 - 40 volunteers each day, we would not be able to provide these programs to our neighbors in need. Volunteer duties include but are not limited to:

  • meal prep and serving
  • clothes washing, drying and folding
  • client greeting, intake and referral
  • day end clean up and next day prep
