Description

  • Provide administrative support to office operations, including some or all of the following tasks:
  • Data entry, conference coordination, meeting organizing
  • Coordinate, create, or update project communications including updating and compiling print materials for events
  • Funding and/or education service research as assigned (Education fundraising/grants, marketing & student recruitment, etc.)
  • Some work may be completed remotely

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Must be at least 16.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, & PowerPoint) Publisher also preferred, but not required.
  • Self-motivation and ability to work independently; Interest in learning how a Non-Profit Public Charter School works.
  • Candidate should possess an interest in the intersection between education and business operations.

Educational Benefits

  • You will learn about key business operations as well as the field of education and the intersection between business, education, and non-profits.
  • You will gain understanding of the functions, goals, and workings of the non-profit sector, including hands on experience in business management, education advocacy, and non-profit fundraising.
  • Depending on interest and ability, some students may be able to develop independent research projects that support our mission.

Time Commitment

  • No specific time commitment. Will be placed based on schedule availability.
  • Volunteers needed over various time periods:
    • Fall semester volunteer needs: early September - mid December
    • Spring semester volunteer needs: early January - May
    • Summer volunteer needs: June - Late August

Description

Established in 1998, Betty Shabazz International Charter School is a network of three African-centered charter schools serving K-12 students residing in Chicago: Betty Shabazz Academy (grades K-8), Barbara A. Sizemore Academy (grades K-8) and DuSable Leadership Academy (grades 9-12). Since its inception, Shabazz School has consistently produced exemplary, high achieving students who have a strong sense of cultural identity and a commitment to make positive contributions to the community and the world.
