About the Respond Now 5K Run for Hunger:

The Respond Now 5k Run/Walk is a Cara certified race that will take place on September 13, 2014, in Olympia Fields, Illinois. All of the funds raised for the 5K will go directly to Respond Now’s two food pantries so we can continue to fight hunger in the south suburbs of Chicago.

In the summer of 2014, we are seeking an Intern to help us prepare for the Respond Now 5K Run for Hunger. The right candidate is an individual who is passionate about social justice and hunger issues, interested in non-profit fundraising and event planning, and ready to multi-task and contribute to the Respond Now 5K team. Duties include, but are not limited to the following.

Responsibilities of Intern:

1. Help provide race information to donors and participants

2. Assist with coordination and preparation of ongoing mailing projects for race

3. Assist with race website details

4. Outreach work to running groups, community organizations and schools

5. Attend meetings with 5K Race Committee

6. Work with volunteer coordinator on recruitment

7. Work to procure in-kind sponsorships for race

8. Work on procuring raffle and incentive prizes for race

9. Work on social media components of 5K campaign, including press releases, media pitches,

public service announcements, and Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Qualifications:

1. 15 hours per week, sometime between 10:00am-5:00pm Tuesday through Friday.
2. Ability to represent Respond Now in a professional manner
3. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
4. Strong verbal communication skills
5. Desire to work in a non-profit office
6. Passion for hunger relief and social justice
7. Desire to develop skills related to fundraising, event planning, community engagement
8. Detail oriented. Concerned with accuracy.
9. Punctual and reliable
10. Proficient with social media applications
11. Ability to work as part of a team or independently
