About Sun Street Centers

Mission Statement
Sun Street Centers prevents alcohol and drug addiction by offering education, prevention, treatment and recovery to individuals and families regardless of income level.
Description
Founded by Martin and Nancy Dodd of Salinas in 1968, Sun Street Centers has been working with individuals and families to combat the devastating health and societal effects of addiction, not only to families but to the community at large. Starting out with an abandoned labor camp, Martin Dodd created a residential treatment center for alcoholics. Together with the men suffering from alcoholism that he found on the streets of Salinas, Martin Dodd built Sun Street Center as a place for recovery and hope. This was the beginning of the comprehensive services that Sun Street Centers offers today. With locations in Soledad, Salinas, Marina, Seaside, and Carmel, Sun Street Centers works with children and teens in the schools to prevent the onset of alcohol and drug use; we provide sober living apartments for men in recovery and services in transitional housing for homeless women so that children can be reunited with their parents in recovery and begin to rebuild their lives. Additionally, we intervene through Outpatient counseling and Driving Under the Influence education classes for adults that are having difficulty controlling alcohol or drug use and have a Residential Treatment program for men who have 'hit bottom’ and whose lives have become unmanageable.
