BACKGROUND: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. At work in over 40 countries and 22 U.S. cities to restore safety, dignity and hope, the IRC leads the way from harm to home. Domestically, our 22 offices across the U.S. ensure new arrivals have food, shelter, and clothing, and work with refugees to help them gain self-sufficiency.

The Resettlement Services Program is the first point of contact for newly arrived refugees and offers support, guidance and counseling through all stages of resettlement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

public assistance for refugees

Obtaining Maryland IDs for newly arrived refugees

Assisting refugees with doctor’s appointments and researching appropriate medical providers for refugees and/or low-income families

REQUIREMENTS:

Reliable and flexible

Work independently, under pressure and in a fast-paced environment

Strong desire to help people and enthusiasm for working in a multi-cultural setting

A car is preferred but not required. Driver's license required for those driving.

Description

Established in July 1999, IRC-Baltimore resettles approximately 700 refugees of all ages and from over 20 nations out of our Southeast Baltimore office each year. Our mission is to help newly arrived refugees become independent and self-supportive by assisting them with services such as temporary financial assistance, job placement, cultural and community orientation, and referrals for English language study, health, education and social services.
