Mission Statement

To help each individual achieve greater success, independence and dignity - at work, at school, at home, and in the community - by providing a diverse network of cost-effective health and human services, which meet the changing needs of the Jewish and broader communities, business and our society.

Description

The mission of FEGS Health and Human Services System has remained constant for almost three-quarters of a century: To meet the needs of the Jewish and broader community through a diverse network of high quality, cost-efficient health and human services that help each person achieve greater independence at work, at home, at school and in the community, and meet the ever-changing needs of business and our society.

FEGS has assisted more than four million people since its founding in 1934 by the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies, now UJA-Federation of New York, of which FEGS is a beneficiary agency.

Today, FEGS is one of the largest and most diversified not-for-profit health and human services organizations in the United States.

Each year FEGS touches the lives of over 100,000 people - some 10,000 each day - at more than 350 locations throughout New York City and Long Island, providing a comprehensive array of services that create opportunities and improve the lives of those we serve.

FEGS service delivery network includes: employment, career, and workforce development; help for individuals transitioning from welfare to work; behavioral health, developmental disabilities and rehabilitation programs; residential services; home care; services to individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing, older adults, refugees and immigrants, families in need, youth at risk, those with substance abuse problems, services for individuals facing life-limiting or end-of-life illness, and many others.

FEGS partners with government, business, foundations, and the voluntary/philanthropic communities to develop innovative programs, creating a seamless, synergistic network that responds to those in need in our community. FEGS is a leader in harnessing technology to improve and enhance services in the most cost-efficient manner.

Our programs are licensed and approved by numerous governmental organizations and are accredited by CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities).

Thirteen subsidiary and affiliate corporations provide a sophisticated infrastructure and support service delivery system in fields such as information technology, human resources, staffing, disaster management, homecare, and related areas.

FEGS is committed to establishing an organizational culture which supports and endorses a program of environmental awareness and energy conservation throughout its operations.

Each day, the dedicated efforts of over 4,000 staff, along with more than 4,000 volunteers and interns who increase the capacity of FEGS to respond to a variety of needs, help to bring compassionate, caring assistance to thousands of individuals in need.
