Founded in 2001, The San Diego River Park Foundation is dedicated to the restoration of the San Diego River and creation of the San Diego River Park System.
We have an unpaid internship available in our RiverWatch Program.
Description: The RiverWatch Intern will be involved in day to day operations of the water quality monitoring program and joining the San Diego River Park Foundation’s RiverWatch team. The RiverWatch Team uses a compact electronic sonde to collect real-time data on the temperature, dissolved oxygen, acidity or alkalinity, conductivity, and nutrient content of the River at 15 locations monthly. The intern will be responsible for equipment maintenance, QA/QC, volunteer coordination, reporting and also be responsible for input and maintenance of the web-based information center.
Benefit: Candidate will gain real world knowledge and hands on experience in environmental monitoring, assessment and reporting. Candidate will have a mix of field and office time and will play a role in the ecological restoration of the San Diego River via program management, data collection and entry.
Schedule: Required RiverWatch outings on the mornings of the third Friday and following Sunday of every month. Office schedule is flexible. Commitment is 10 hours per week.
Qualifications: A background in environmental science or chemistry is preferred. Candidates must possess strong people skills, ability to work with a team and independently, good organizational and observational skills, interest in environmental sustainability, lab experience, and familiarity working outdoors. Candidates should also be able to walk and hike long distances on uneven terrain, ability to lift 20lbs, as well as the ability to bend, stoop and sit for long periods of time.

Description
We organize many different volunteer stewardship activities each month. River Cleanups, native plant gardening, habitat restoration, volunteer leadership, water quality testing, outreach and education, special event committees, technical committees and more.
