THE YMCA OF GREATER SEATTLE

At our 13 branches, two overnight camps and more than 200 program sites, YMCA employees serve the people of King and south Snohomish Counties with programs and services tailored to fit the needs of those we reach. Three overarching goals drive our work: youth development, healthy lifestyles and social responsibility. THE Y @ CASCADE PEOPLE’S CENTER

The mission of the Y @ Cascade People’s Center (CPC) is to provide a space for social, cultural, educational and recreational opportunities for all who live, work and play in the Cascade neighborhood. The CPC is located in the geographical center of Seattle and operates as a collaboration between Seattle Parks and Recreation and the Metrocenter YMCA. The space serves multiple functions in that it houses two YMCA programs; B.O.L.D/G.O.L.D and the YMCA Earth Service Corps. Additionally, the space functions as center and a hub to engage those who work and live in the Cascade neighborhood.

General Function

We are looking for a volunteer who is able to utilize their knowledge in organic gardening, compost, and pest control to maintain the space the CPC is responsible for which has been given to us through the P-Patch organization that is available on site.

Time Commitment

As much time you are able to dedicate to our garden.

Entry Requirements
1. Must be at least 18 years of age

2. Must complete a YMCA volunteer application and be approved as a YMCA volunteer

Principal Activities
1. Maintenance of existing plants in our plot

2. Design future plant installations

3. Seasonal planning of edible vegetable installations

4. Harvesting vegetables

5. Utilize organic techniques for pest control

6. Maintain and the use of healthy compost
