Mission Statement
SFARES provides auxilliary radio communications without charge to government agencies and relief organizations in times of emergency, and to community public service events in the interest of safety and security. We use special amateur radio equipment and frequencies authorized by the FCC. We are affiliated with the American Radio Relay League (ARRL).
Description
The Santa Fe ARES Group is composed of women and men from the general Santa Fe area. Membership is open to any licensed amateur radio operator interested in volunteer public service. Members of our subgroups are trained to respond to communications needs for Emergency Operations Centers in times of disaster and to support Public Service Events such as long-distance races, festivals, and other community events. The group has an inventory of radio equipment for use by members. We usually meet the second Saturday of each month near the Santa Fe County Fire Department Center at 35 Camino Justicia. No experinece is necessary, just an interest in learning.
