The primary responsibility for this position is to work with victims of domestic violence in the courtroom to ensure 1.) that clients receive the necessary information to proceed through the court system as victim witnesses to their assailant, 2.) victim witness will receive necessary resource referrals including places to safe shelter, 3.) victim witnesses will receive information about domestic violence and the impact it has on their lives and their children’s lives, and 4.) battered women will receive necessary information to keep them safe including filing for ex parte orders of protection.

Description
Newhouse provides access, admittance and residence in temporary shelter for victims of domestic violence and their children 24-hours a day, every day of the year. Newhouse takes a comprehensive approach in meeting the needs of the women and children who turn to Newhouse for emergency shelter and for relief from the crushing distress of domestic violence.
Newhouse has served Kansas City's urban core for 42 years. In 2012, Newhouse provided 24,769 bednights to 792 residents (511 women and 281 children). Newhouse answered 9,248 emergency hotline calls and served 661 victims in the Municipal Domestic Violence Court system.
