NYEP is a youth service organization IN RENO, NV based out of a 5 bedroom home in a residential neighborhood. NYEP staff provide daily guidance, interpersonal assignments and basic skills training to residents of its Community Living Program (CLP) within the context of the resident's life. The CLP provides residents with opportunities to learn the basic skills and coping skills necessary to develop a happy life that is worth living and sustainable outside of a "program." The work environment is casual and has a forward-thinking culture. In addition to our housing program, the NYEP staff also collaborate with many local agencies to build community and organizational capacity to ultimately serve all homeless youth within Washoe County. The VISTA will assist the Executive Director in building community capacity with the local housing coalition participants through a variety of activities including resource mapping, gaps analysis, homeless count, research, building a central intake process and policy for implementation, conducting specific activities concerning local youth programming to ensure services do what they say and are cost effective, developing a Social Impact Fund model, developing a Standards of Excellence for youth providers, assisting with developing bylaws, responsibilities and expectations for the youth housing committee, mapping out collaboratives, drawing up MOUs specific to new approaches to doing business together, developing and research promising approaches and model examples for the group to work from. These activities will prepare NYEP and Washoe County to serve homeless youth, as well as locate the funding to support the effort. You will be exposed to a variety of different situations and will learn about innovative behavioral strategies, Nevada Medicaid, policy writing, training, problem solving, leadership, youth mobilization, grant writing and much more through your assignments. The VISTA will assist the Executive Director in building community capacity with local youth housing providers through a variety of activities including resource mapping and planning, gaps analysis, homeless count, research, building a central intake process and policy for implementation, conducting specific activities concerning local youth programming to ensure the efficacy and cost-effectiveness of services, developing a Social Impact Fund model, developing a Standards of Excellence for youth providers, assisting with development of bylaws, responsibilities and expectations for the youth housing providers, shoring up collaboratives, drawing up MOUs specific to new approaches to doing business together, developing and researching promising approaches and modeling examples for the group to work from. These activities will build the capacity within Washoe County necessary for NYEP to serve more homeless youth.
