18th Street Arts Center is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated university student (or career changer) for an unpaid communications internship to start immediately.

18th Street Arts Center is the largest, continuously running artist residency program in Southern California. We encourage contemporary artists locally, nationally, and internationally to create new work within a supportive environment. Our mission is to provoke public dialogue through contemporary art making. With a 25 year history, 18th Street Art Center, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, has supported thousands of individual artists through its programs.

The Communications Intern will work under the Director of Communications & Outreach. Strong candidates should be motivated to build on their knowledge of the contemporary arts community in Los Angeles and have some experience and/or are studying some combination of the following: communications/marketing/outreach/social media/writing/art. During the internship, your valuable time will be spent assisting the Director of Communications & Outreach in preparing the monthly eNewsletter, maintenance of the website, promotion/coordination/outreach for events and artists both on and offline, implementation of social media strategy across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Tumblr, and other administrative tasks.

tech savvy
pays attention to details
ability to stay focussed in an every changing environment
experience&proficient in: google docs/spreadsheets/calendar, Constant Contact (or other email management platform), WordPress, Adobe Photoshop, Dropbox, Microsoft Word

A plus:
experience doing market research
easily grasps trends in social media
proficient in: Adobe Indesign & Illustrator, Microsoft Excel, HTML, CSS, PHP
