ORGANIZATION: Lutheran Hospice of the Low Country

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.
  • 15 people are interested

LUTHERAN HOSPICE OF THE LOWCOUNTRY is looking for volunteers who are able to share their time with hospice patients living at home, in the hospital, assisted living homes or in long term care facilities. Hospice volunteers give their time to terminally ill patients and their caregivers during a critical time. In orientation classes they are trained in listening skills, family dynamics and the right words to say to patients and their loved ones at the end of life.

Visits made by our volunteers not only help each patient, but the families are truly touched as well. The shortest conversation can have the largest impact. LUTHERAN HOSPICE OF THE LOW COUNTRYvolunteers provide relief care for caregivers, offer companionship for the patient, run errands and help in other meaningful ways.

This is a great opportunity for you to give back to the community. By taking a small amount of time out of your busy week you can make the biggest difference in another’s life.

LUTHERAN HOSPICE takes pride in its volunteers, and we welcome you to become part of our team. There are many locations throughout the area you can choose from. Your commitment is completely up to you, whether you spend one day a week or one day a month. Your time is always appreciated. For more information about LUTHERAN HOSPICEVolunteer Services visit

Mission Statement

Believing in the presence of God, the value of human life and the dignity of the individual, the mission of Lutheran Homes of South Carolina, as a ministry of the church, is to promote the well-being of older adults by providing residential health care and hospice services.

Description

Whatever your unique gift, talent, or passion there is an opportunity for you to join the Lutheran Hospice team. Our Direct Patient Care volunteers help patients to live their life to the fullest during their final days, while also providing support to the patient's loved ones.

Administrative volunteers help by answering the phone, filing, copying, preparing our admission packets and helping with mailouts. Special Services volunteers do not have direct patient contact but can provide handmade items such as quilts, lap blankets, and toiletry kits for our patients. Birthday cards and cakes also add an element of joy to a patient's life.Bereavement volunteers help families and caregivers continue on with life following the death of a loved one. This may be through visits or phone calls. Professional volunteers such as massage therapists, dieticians, hairdressers, etc. are also welcome to volunteer their services. Pet Peace of Mind volunteers help hospice patients care for their pets. Our newest partnership and volunteer program is "We Honor Veterans." Hospice patients who are veterans are honored with pins, flags and certificates, all through the year for their faithful and unselfish service and sacrafice to our country.

If your heart is calling you to help, we will find the right place for you on our team at Lutheran Hospice
