The Organization

The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies about 40 percent of the nation's blood; teaches skills that save lives; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a not-for-profit organization that depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.

The Internship

The American Red Cross offers exceptional undergraduate and graduate students unpaid internship opportunities at our Red Cross national headquarters in Washington, D.C. and in chapters across the country through our Summer Internship Program. Interns are matched with a specific department where they work on advancing critical projects.

The overall aim of the program is to attract a pool of diverse, skilled, enthusiastic young professionals and provide them with an opportunity to build a long-term, substantive relationship with the Red Cross.

Basic Qualifications:

• Current undergraduate (Junior or Senior) pursuing a liberal arts degree
• Humanitarian studies a plus
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite required, particularly Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Knowledge of popular and common web browsers
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Excellent relationship skills and ability to work cross-functionally
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

The Service to the Armed Forces, Youth in Military Medical Facilities Program Intern reports to the Senior Director, Service Delivery for Service to the Armed Forces

Summary:

The Service to the Armed Forces, Youth in Military Medical Facilities Program Intern will perform an analysis on a Youth Steering Committee to ensure that goals set out by Service to Armed Forces, Service to Military and VA Hospitals, Program for the recruitment and involvement of Youth in the program are being met. The purpose of the Youth in Military Medical Facilities Steering Committee is to unify youth volunteer programs across regions and will recommend standardized guidelines for future program development and implementation.

Responsibilities:

• Assist with performing analysis of Youth in Military Medical Facilities Steering Committee Action Plan (complete with reoccurring tasks, timeline and budget)
• Schedule and facilitate meetings on possible improvements and recommendations to the program
