The Organization

The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies about 40 percent of the nation's blood; teaches skills that save lives; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a not-for-profit organization that depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.

The Internship

The American Red Cross offers exceptional undergraduate and graduate students unpaid internship opportunities at our Red Cross national headquarters in Washington, D.C. and in chapters across the country through our Summer Internship Program. Interns are matched with a specific department where they work on advancing critical projects.

The overall aim of the program is to attract a pool of diverse, skilled, enthusiastic young professionals and provide them with an opportunity to build a long-term, substantive relationship with the Red Cross.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Current undergraduate (Junior or Senior) pursuing a degree in Business, Communications, Non-Profit Management, Journalism, Human Services, or related field
  • Strong proven writing, editing and research skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office and Outlook.
  • Working knowledge of Salesforce and SurveyMonkey a plus

The Corporate Employee Engagement Intern reports to the Officer of Employee Engagement.

The Employee Engagement team within Corporate and Foundations Programs provides fundraisers with strategy, support and benefits execution for a variety of corporate employee programs and creates relationship-enhancing opportunities for our national corporate and business partners.

The Corporate Employee Engagement Intern will work on at least 2-3 major corporate engagement programs during their time during the internship period.

The Corporate Employee Engagement Intern will work directly with the Employee Engagement team to assist with national project management, connecting corporate engagement done-in-a-day interests with Red Cross chapters over multiple markets. They will also assist with internal and external communications, solicitation materials development and assisting Red Cross field teams with event and program support.

Description

The national headquarters of the American Red Cross provides assistance with shaping and leading the organization in our mission and strategic plan. National Headquarters also assists with technical guidance to the many Red Cross units, such as Chapters, Armed Forces Emergency Services Stations and Blood Services regions. These units are responsible for the direct service to the community including disaster response and preparedness, messaging to Armed Forces military and their families, collecting and delivering blood products, teaching health and safety skills and helping reunite families through our international services.
