If you're looking for a great service outing that is educational, active, outdoors and provides a significant community benefit, consider storm drain stenciling!
What is Storm Drain Stenciling?
Using paint and stencils, volunteers mark Saint Paul storm drains with the message, "Keep 'em Clean, Drains to River (Lake or Creek)!" and distribute educational doorhangers to neighborhood homes and businesses.
This hands-on outdoor service activity is an ideal opportunity to improve our local water resources -- and an excellent fit for groups looking for a fun, outdoor team-building experience with immediate results.
A Storm Drain Stenciling service outing:
- takes place in St. Paul,
- is just 1 1/2-3 hours in length,
- can be scheduled according to your needs (and the stenciling coordinator’s availability),
- can accommodate anywhere from 20 to 200 people, and,
- is entirely free with all supplies provided.
FMR works with community, youth, church, corporate and informal neighborhood or family groups, as well as classrooms. This activity is best for 4th graders and older, but groups with younger children are welcome if a significant, up to one-to-one adult-to-youth ratio can be provided within the group.
If you are interested in scheduling an outing, please visit our event website and fill out a request form! http://www.fmr.org/participate/events/stenciling_2013
Or, if you have a group of 2-19, check-out a stenciling bin and head out on your own! Visit http://fmr.org/check-out-st-paul-stenciling-kit-groups-20-or-fewer

Mission Statement
Friends of the Mississippi River (FMR) engages people to protect, restore and enhance the Mississippi River and its watershed in the Twin Cities region.
Description
Friends of the Mississippi River is proud to work with roughly 3,000 volunteers annually.
We keep volunteering simple, fun and satisfying -- there are no applications, and you can sign up for one event or several. We list events especially in need of volunteers here on VolunteerMatch.com, but maintain a full calendar of 60+ events a year at www.fmr.org/events.
Our project work includes conservation and restoration of natural areas and habitat, education on watershed protection issues, and organizing activities that connect the public to the Mississippi River.
