The Movement Specialist would work alongside our REAL Kids staff to incorporate movement into the after school program with our Kindergarten and 1st grade teams. This volunteer Movement Specialist will develop curriculum including physical warm up, activity, and cool down; while including the Harlem RBI values of fun and teamwork. A successful movement session includes silliness, the release of energy, and the opportunity to move your body.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Build specialized movement lesson plans for Kindergarten/1st grade.
  • Manage a class of 14-20 students during movement session.
  • Support the values of fun and teamwork through physical activities.

Qualifications:

  • Enjoy working with early elementary school youth.
  • Possess creativity, enthusiasm and patience.
  • Have 1-2 years working with youth.
  • Have 1-2 years of experience in a physical activity (i.e. yoga, dance, karate, field games, kickboxing, etc.).
  • Have the ability and desire to engage youth and families in a low-income, urban community.
  • High propensity for silliness.
  • Enjoy working as part of a team.
  • At least 18 years of age.

Time Commitment: At least 1-2 days per week, Monday-Thursday, 4:00pm - 6:00pm. We require at least a three-month commitment.

Description

DREAM serves over 2200 East Harlem and South Bronx youth by providing free, high-quality summer and afterschool programs to youth ages 6-21 years in an intensive multi-year commitment that connects youth and families to age-appropriate programs and passionate professional staff over time.

All DREAM youth play on a baseball or softball team and participate in a full range of education and youth development programs designed to build the skills and confidence necessary to succeed as healthy and active adults.
