Being a Long-Term Care Ombuds with our volunteer program is not like any other volunteer program. It is challenging, engaging, and rewarding! We are confident, but gracious advocates, and low level problem solvers for residents who live in Nursing Homes, Assisted Living, and Adult Family Homes. LTC Ombuds are resident directed advocates, and empower residents to use their voice to ask for what they feel they deserve. Ombuds are often the "Voice" for a resident who chooses not to or is unable to speak for themself.
Our volunteers are carefully selected, and screened through an interview process, and if accepted, attend an intense 32 hour training which results in a state certification. Volunteers commit to a year of service and a minimum of 4 hours a week in their Ombuds role. You will be assigned a facility to visit weekly in your community. We encourage you to make your own schedule visiting residents, and select 1 two hour area training meeting a month to attend. The one thing I love most about this program is the free and confidential service we provide to residents. We have a very good response time too, usually a call back within 24 hours, to the people who call for help on our Intake line. We are not 911, but our certified volunteers respond to every call as soon as possible. This commitment our volunteers share is just one of the things that make our program very special.
