This initiative addresses challenges through input and leadership from community leaders. ToGetHerThere program will work to remove socioeconomic barriers for at-risk girls in Alabama by mentoring girls in four initiatives: Financial Literacy, Healthy Living, Leadership and STEM. ToGetHerThere will focus on girls' ages 5-17 who are considered at-risk/under-served in the North-Central Alabama counties in the following areas: Anniston, Gadsden, Tuscaloosa, Demopolis, Hamilton, Florence, Huntsville.

Mission Statement

Girl Scouts builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. ToGetHerThere's mission is to take Girl Scout's program and use to help at-risk/under served girls by removing socioeconomic barriers to achieve their full leadership potential in all aspects of society.

Our mission is to build a task force dedicated to helping at-risk girls achieve their full leadership potential in all aspects of society in the North Central Alabama Counties.

Description

Our 36-county Girl Scouts council’s recent research indicates that almost 53,000 girls between the ages of 5 and 17 live in poverty in our service area. ToGetHerThere Alabama was created to provide leadership training and positive role models for these girls in need, empowering them to control their own destiny instead of having their future success limited by circumstances beyond their control.

ToGetHerThere-Alabama is an exciting new initiative of Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama that has been developed in response to compelling data from the Girl Scouts Research Institute and other recent national studies. Research shows that a large percentage of underserved girls today are backing down from aspirations, opting out from activities and no longer believe they have a chance to become anything they want to be in life.
