Why should I be a volunteer for Junior Achievement?

Volunteers are vital to JA. Today’s kids need role models from the community more than ever before. JA volunteers ensure that kids have an understanding and appreciation for the many wonderful opportunities that they have available in the world of work.

How much time will this take?

As a volunteer, you would make 5 visits to your JA classroom. Each visit lasts between 30 and 50 minutes. You are provided a packet of materials, which contains detailed lesson plans and hands-on activities to engage the students. Volunteers are also invited to a 1-hour training session, which will provide tips for the classroom experience.

How do I get involved with JA?

It’s easy to become a JA volunteer. Regardless of your background or experience, Junior Achievement provides the training, materials, and the support you need to make a difference!

Description

The mission of Junior Achievement is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in the global economy. Our goal is to create a more financially sound future for students, communities, and ultimately the world. JA programming helps K-12 students visualize their own potential and inspires them to own their future economic success. We seek to motivate young minds to value education, to take control of their own financial futures, and to be thoughtfully engaged citizens who contribute positively to their local communities.

In all, JA offers 20 different age appropriate programs to prepare young people for the real world in seven key content areas: financial literacy; ethics/character; business; citizenship; economics; entrepreneurship; and career development. Our programs are delivered through two distinct models:

1. Traditional classroom - In our most popular delivery model, used in all K-12 grade levels, trained volunteers, most often from the business community, interact with students in the classroom once a week for five to seven weeks. Students learn through age-appropriate, hands-on activities that keep them engaged and interested.

2. Capstone experience - JAUM’s premiere hands-on learning experiences are JA Finance Park, JA BizTown, JA Company Program and JA Titan, collectively referred to as JA Capstone Programs. Each curriculum includes an intensive culminating experience designed to help bring personal finance, business and entrepreneurial skills to life.
