Literacy New Jersey, Gloucester County Programs trains tutors to help adults read, write or speak English. Our 15-hour training is once a week for 5 consecutive weeks. At the end of which you will be matched with either a Basic Literacy student or an English as a Second Language student. All tutoring takes place in a public place, usually at a local library convenient to both of you, once a week.
Our next Tutor Training will take place at the Washington Township Municipal Building Thursdays, September 25th, October 2nd, 9th, 23th and 30th, 2014 from 6pm-9pm.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer tutor please call the office at 856-218-4743 for more information. You can also email us at program@literacyvgc.org.
Our tutors find the work very rewarding as they watch their students make progress and knowing that they play a part in that success.

Mission Statement
Literacy New Jersey exists so all adults have the opportunity to read, write, and communicate effectively. We do this by training volunteer tutors to help adult learners and by supporting a network of literacy programs.
Description
Literacy New Jersey provides free instruction to adults who need help with reading, writing, math and speaking English. Trained volunteer tutors work with adults one-to-one or in small groups to help them improve their language and literacy skills so they can reach their life goals.
Tutors are trained to develop personalized instruction plans for their students. Tutoring is designed to meet the needs of the students by utilizing high interest materials and techniques effective in the instruction of adults. Instruction is one to one or small groups either in a public place or held virtually. The program is accredited by ProLiteracy, a national literacy organization.
