A simple meal can provide significant comfort for families after an exhausting day at the hospital. We invite you to visit us and prepare a hot, delicious dinner for our families with our amazingly talented chef, Chef James.

Experience the excitement of cooking with a professional chef, with the bonus of helping families in need. Whether you’re looking for a team-building activity for colleagues or a fun way to give back with friends and family, our NEW chef-led experience with Chef James is a great way for groups to be part of our mission and serve families. As a Meals from the Heart volunteer, you provide so much more than food. You provide families with a sense of comfort and community.

To participate, groups give a $300 donation to support our meal program.

Dates Available: Saturday -Wednesday

Meet Chef James

Chef James graduated with a B.A. in culinary management from the International Culinary School at The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. He’s been cooking for 14 years and was the Executive Chef at Whiskey Dry by Ed Lee and Sous Chef at Milkwood. Most recently, Chef James served as the Culinary Liaison to The LEE Initiative.

"I am excited to serve and help others serve our guest families. I look forward to assisting you with this in any way I can, and if I can show you a chef trick or two, then that’s all just a bonus."

Our Volunteers LOVE Meals from the Heart!

"Wow! What a fun and meaningful experience I had participating in "Meals from the Heart"! Chef James gave me the confidence I needed to feel comfortable creating a delicious and nutritious meal for the families staying at the House."

"Chef James thoughtfully plans every component of the delicious meal--including extras and adjustments for little ones with dietary needs or specific favorites--so you can be certain everyone will leave feeling nourished."

"Chef James makes this experience extra special given his warm and caring heart focusing on what will bring the most comfort and happiness to the guests. If you enjoy food, learning new skills from an expert, and supporting the community, please learn more about this opportunity."

Mission Statement

The mission of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kentuckiana is to provide a "home away from home" for families of children receiving healthcare at area medical facilities.

Description

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kentuckiana (RMHCK) is a non-profit, 501 (c) (3) charity located in the heart of downtown Louisville, a short walk from Kosair Children's Hospital and other regional hospitals. We accomplish our mission with four distinct progras: Ronald McDonald House (RMH); Ronald McDonald Family Rooms; grants; and scholarships.

Founded in 1984, Louisville's Ronald McDonald House began with 19 guest rooms. As the need grew, so did we. In 2003, we expanded RMH to 29 rooms, and we expanded again in 2009, this time to 36 guest rooms, each accommodating up to four people.

In 1992, RMHCK helped to pioneer one of the first Ronald McDonald Family Rooms in the world - a place families can rest and regroup right at the hospital, just steps from their sick child. We have Family Room in three Louisville hospitals - Norton Suburban, Kosair Children's, and Frazier Rehab Insitute.

Since opening our doors, RMHCK has helped more than 25,000 families from all 50 states and several international locations. We've given more than $1 million in grants to organizations that support children. We are truly a community-supported organization due to our generous volunteers, donors, and advocates.
