Mission Statement

The Compeer program at the Mental Health Association of South Central Kansas utilizes the power of volunteer mentors to improve the lives of Wichita area children and adults who are striving for mental wellness.

Description

Compeer volunteers have an impact on the lives of those they mentor by providing caring, supportive relationships, being positive role models, and helping their mentee gain confidence and a feeling of connection to their community. Individuals referred to Compeer are often lonely or isolated and struggle with peer-to-peer relationships, social skills, academics, feeling accepted, or trusting others. Compeer offers mentorship opportunities that are community-based one-to-one friendships and school-based friendships with children ages 6 to 17, community-based one-to-one friendships with adults, and veteran-to-veteran relationships.
