Our mission is to control the population of free-roaming cats in Charleston County and Dorchestor County, South Carolina, through community action and legislative change, TNR programs, educating the public, facilitating caretakers and socializing kittens through our many PetSmart adoption centers.

We are seeking volunteers for our many programs, including helping at our PetSmart adoption centers, socializing and fostering cats and kitten in the Charleston, SC area. And assisting with spay/neuter, TNR programs, educating the public, event fundraisers, and more! Let us know what you love to do, and we can find something for you. We LOVE our volunteers, and cannot do this work without them.

As a member of HumaneNet, The Feline Freedom Coalition has taken an increasingly important role in the ASPCA Community Partnership Program. We are the only organization in Charleston County that focuses solely on working with feral cats.

Beginning as a private operating foundation in 2004, we have rapidly expanded our public outreach since 2009 to become more active in TNR and helping the public learn more about managed cat colony care. Since that time we have funded the spay/neuter surgery for over 1000 animals, provided assistance for over 350 managed colonies, removed and adopted over 500 socialized cats/kittens from colonies and trapped over 700 cats as part of Charleston County Free Roaming Cat Program.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to control the population of free-roaming cats in Charleston County through community action and legislative change, TNR programs, educating the public, facilitating caretakers and socializing kittens.

Description

The Feline Freedom Coalition is a non-profit organization that provides services and support to individuals and community groups interested in using TNR (trap, neuter, return or re-home) to effectively control the overpopulation of free roaming cats in Charleston County. Our services include

  • education and information of the public, property decision makers and governmental agencies through our TNR Community Hotline, website, TNR training programs and central, statistical database regarding the state of free roaming cats,
  • facilitating the work of caretakers involved in colony management by providing a communication network and support resources and
  • the adoption of socialized feral cats and kittens through Petsmart's Adoption Outreach Program.

The Feline Freedom Coalition, the only no-cage, adoption and medical treatment facility for feral cats in South Carolina, is hoping to receive 4,000 cans of donated wet food by New Year’s Eve to feed the 200 feral cats that we care for daily on our 20 acre sanctuary in Ravenel.

Of the 3000 cats we have trapped, neutered and returned in Charleston County during the past fifteen years, these are the lucky ones! They could not be returned to their colonies due to habitat destruction, physical danger or overall fragility. Also a very small percentage of kittens do not socialize to be adopted at one of the three Petsmarts where FFC has found homes for 300 to 400 kittens and adult cats yearly since 2009.
