Foster Grandparents volunteer 15 and up to 40 hours per week in school and educational settings with children and young persons. Foster Grandparents are 55 or over, income-qualify and have a strong desire to make a positive difference in the lives of students. Foster Grandparents receive a small stipend and mileage if they have a driver's license and current insurance.

Description
The Foster Grandparent Program is based out of Sturgis, South Dakota and currently covers 14 counties in western SD (Bennett, Butte , Custer, Fall River , Haakan, Harding, Jackson, Lawrence, Meade, Mellette, Pennington, Perkins, Shannon and Todd) .
We place income eligible senior citizens (age 55 and over) with children in settings such as elementary schools, head starts, child care centers, pre-school programs, and after school programs to do volunteer work with children. Foster Grandparent volunteers serve an average of 20 hours per week (can do 15-40 hours per week) and, in turn, receive an hourly tax-free stipend, transportation reimbursement or assistance, paid orientation & training, paid holidays, earn vacation & sick leave, site provided meal (when available), supplemental accident and personal liability insurance, annual recognition, companionship with fellow seniors, and the fulfillment of fostering hope in the eyes of a child!
