Mission Statement

The mission of the Volunteer Center of South Jersey (VCSJ) is to promote volunteerism by connecting people with opportunities to serve, providing community agencies with resources and training, and building community partnerships to meet local needs. The VCSJ provides services in seven South Jersey counties: Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, Salem, Cumberland, Atlantic and Cape May. VCSJ mobilizes people and resources to address social needs through volunteer service. The Volunteer Center believes that through volunteer service South Jersey residents have the capacity to enrich their own lives and improve the quality of life in our community. The Center also recognizes that all people have time and talent to share, and is committed to collaborative efforts that bring together individuals, neighborhoods, schools, businesses, government, non-profit, faith-based and other community organization for our greater good. The Center is a proud affiliate member of the Hands On Network.

Our Services:

  1. Volunteers: Support system, information system, and training for volunteers seeking service opportunities.
  2. Non-Profit Organizations: Central referral and information service hub for local non-profit organizations; Community volunteer recruiting and coordination; Best practices publications; Volunteer matching; Volunteer recognition program; Capacity-building education programs for volunteer managers; Affordable, hands-on, in-house consulting for non-profit management; Community partnerships programs; Tracking volunteerism for community impact;
  3. For-Profit Organizations: Information and referral; Employee volunteer program consulting services (complimentary and fee-based); Recognition program for corporate social responsibility.

Our History:

The Volunteer Center of South Jersey (VCSJ), formally known as the Volunteer Center of Gloucester County, was established as a private, independent 501c3 non-profit organization in 1996 with support from the United Way of Gloucester County and the Board of Chosen Freeholders. In January of 1999, the Center moved onto the Gloucester County College campus, where it currently remains.

In April of 2013, the Volunteer Center expanded and changed its name to the Volunteer Center of South Jersey. The Center’s Board of Directors, donors, leadership, and volunteers continue to be deeply committed to changing lives, strengthening our community, and meeting the social needs in South Jersey.
