Every year, West Valley Community Services (WVCS)* offers free tax return preparation and filing assistance to low-income individuals through our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. Through the VITA program, IRS-certified volunteers meet one-on-one with clients, helping them prepare and file their taxes, taking advantage of special tax credits and free electronic filing.
WVCS is in need of one reliable, detail-oriented, personable volunteer to coordinate apointments and check-in clients for their appointments this VITA program season. This volunteer will check clients in as they arrive for their appointments, and manage the VITA phone line and email account, responding to appointment requests, scheduling appointments, and making reminder phone calls. Volunteer will ensure that interested clients meet all qualifications for the VITA program, and relay appropriate information to adequately prepare every client for their VITA appointment.
Volunteer must be proficient in Gmail and Google Calendar, and be comfortable using and speaking to clients both in person and on the telephone. Volunteer must be detail-oriented, and have good communication skills as he/she will need to keep close contact with WVCS staff, volunteers, and clients. Volunteer will be needed on Saturdays from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM starting Saturday, February 7th through Saturday April 11, 2015.
Training: Provided on your first day, February 7th, by Sujatha Venkatraman, WVCS Director of Stability Support Services. Staff will accompany you for the first 4 Saturdays of the program, after which you will work independently.
*West Valley Community Services (WVCS) is a basic needs organization that serves people in need in the Cupertino, Los Gatos, Monte Sereno, Saratoga, and West San Jose areas. The mission of WVCS is to encourage the sharing of community resources, to provide basic human needs in a caring and dignified environment, and to provide opportunities for volunteers to participate in WVCS' activies.

Founded in 1973, West Valley Community Services provides a continuum of basic needs, including an in-house and mobile food pantry, homeless support, affordable housing, emergency financial assistance, family support, referrals, education, and case management. West Valley Community Services serves homeless and low-income individuals and families in the west valley communities of Cupertino, Saratoga, West San Jose, Los Gatos, Monte Sereno, and the surrounding mountain regions.
