Spend a lovely afternoon along the Duwamish River spreading sheet mulch, clearing invasive weeds and preparing the land for planting in the fall. We’ll have a great view of an osprey nest and some occasional otter and bunny sightings while we work next to the river. What greater way to start you weekend than by getting your hands dirty, convening with nature and doing something great for your community and the environment.

Please come prepared with weather appropriate clothes, close toed shoes and a water bottle. We’ll provide the gloves, tools and training!
Volunteers under the age of 18 should bring a signed youth waiver with them to the event.

Mission Statement
Forterra's mission is to act with immediacy to protect, enhance and steward our region's most precious resources--its communities and its landscapes. Since 1989, we have been working toward a future in which our children and grandchildren can experience nature in and around our urban environments.
Description
Forterra conserves land by working with individuals, companies and local governments. We strive to maximize the ecological value of land, while meeting the needs of landowners. We may accept land as a donation, purchase it, or transfer it to public ownership. We often serve as a broker to identify and negotiate the most effective ownership to protect important lands. We establish conservation easements to preserve special features. For each and every property, we explore available strategies or create new ones to provide permanent protection. Forterra has established a Conservation Agenda for our region, with specific priorities and methods for each type of landscape. Current initiatives include the protection of working forests on the foothills of the Cascades, and the creation of salmon sanctuaries along our region's highest quality rivers and streams.
