Mission Statement

The mission of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra is to advance the enjoyment and appreciation of symphonic music through performances at the highest artistic level and innovative programs that challenge, educate, enrich, and entertain.

Description

In addition to the many classical and pops concerts in its home, the magnificent Hilbert Circle Theatre at Symphony Centre, the Orchestra is regularly heard in communities around Indiana and at the Kroger Symphony on the Prairie series each summer. Created in 1994, the Orchestra's syndicated radio series, Indianapolis On-The-Air, now represents Indiana to the nation on 250 stations in 38 states.

The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra is dedicated to leading in music education. Symphony musicians and staff create innovative learning opportunities for all ages inspired by the power of music. These include the pioneering and award-winning Arts Everyday program that addresses state-mandated standards of achievement as well as additional programs, workshops, and resources. In 2005, the one-millionth child attended our Discovery Concerts, a series of concerts for students in the third through sixth grades. Each year, more than 25,000 students from around the state attend the daytime concerts.

To attract new audiences, the ISO offers Happy Hour at the Symphony Series - concerts on select Thursday evenings, with a post-work social hour and an earlier concert start time. The one-hour concerts are hosted by local celebrities.
