About Allies for Health + Wellbeing

Location:

5913 Penn Avenue, 2nd Floor, Pittsburgh, PA 15206, US

Mission Statement

Our Mission: To improve health and wellbeing, Allies provides integrated medical care, supportive human services, and community-based education for individuals living with, or at risk of HIV, viral hepatitis, and sexually transmitted infections. Our Vision: Allies envisions a healthier community whereby all individuals access integrated medical care and supportive human services in a respectful setting, free of stigma and discrimination.

Description

In 1985, a group of dedicated volunteers led by Kerry Stoner formed the Pittsburgh AIDS Task Force (PATF) in response to a cry from those living with HIV/AIDS for compassion, supportive services and information about the disease.

In its infancy, the agency offered legal advocacy to fight discrimination and secure entitlements, as well as emotional and practical support to those who were dying from AIDS through the Buddy Program. Incorporated as a not-for-profit 501(c) 3 organization in March 1986, PATF existed as an all-volunteer agency until March 1988, when the organization hired Kerry Stoner as its first executive director.

Now Allies for Health + Wellbeing has progressed from an agency that helped people with AIDS to die with dignity into an agency that helps people living with or at risk of HIV/AIDS as well as viral hepatitis and STIs live healthier, more fulfilling lives.

Our services now include:

  • A medical clinic
  • Behavioral health services
  • Gender-affirming care, including HRT
  • PrEP
  • Medical case management
  • HIV, hepatitis and STI testing and counseling
  • Food pantry
  • Transportation
  • Emergency financial assistance
  • Housing
  • Prevention and educational outreach

We continue to be the oldest and largest AIDS service organization in Southwestern Pennsylvania, and we offer the most comprehensive, integrated medical care at one location, available to clients in 11 counties.
