George Mark Children's House is a pediatric palliative care center, caring for medically fragile children and their families. We serve appetizing, nutritious and varied home-cooked meals throughout each day. These are prepared in our kitchen and served to families and staff in our family-style dining room. Volunteers assist our staff in cooking, serving and cleaning up during lunch time. Requirements include: completion of paperwork (George Mark Children’s House forms, review of kitchen handbook, medical and background checks), attend new volunteer training, and mentoring by our head chef for one shift. The minimum commitment to volunteer is for at least one four-hour shift per week for at least a year.

Description
George Mark Children's House is the first freestanding children's respite and end of life care facility in the United States. The House, located in San Leandro, California, offers respite support (round-the-clock), transitional care, and end of life care for children with life limiting or life threatening illnesses. All care is informed by the principles of palliative care. Additional support services are available to all family members.
