LSS/NCA collects donated furniture on Mondays, which we then redistribute to refugees as they arrive to our area. We need strong volunteers like YOU to help with our donations pick-ups on Mondays from 9am-3pm at our Falls Church VIRGINIA location. Can be one-time event or recurring volunteer opportunity depending on your schedule. Volunteers should be ready for some heavy lifting and a good time :)

Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area (LSS/NCA) offers support and hope to children, individuals, families, and communities throughout the National Capital area and Baltimore city regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, age, or sexual orientation. We educate and advocate for social justice, individual self-sufficiency, and the inherent worth of every human being.
Description
The LSS/NCA Refugee & Immigrant Services program provides support and services including reception, resettlement and employment services for refugees, asylees and victims of human trafficking.

Our current activities include:
Reception and Placement: Currently, we are welcoming refugees from: Burma, Liberia, Iran, Uzbekistan, Sudan, Eritrea, Somalia, Ethiopia, Vietnam, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Early Self-Sufficiency Program: Combines private donations with federal matching funds to provide an alternative to welfare for new arrivals. The goal is to find employment for the refugee as soon as possible.
