Mission Statement

To serve our neighbors in need, the low-income families of the Boonton area by working with sustained commitment to improve their quality of life in tangible ways

Description

Established in 2000, the ground work for Cedar Hill Community Development Corporation (CDC) was laid by a grass roots call to action, spurred by a commitment to the community and a noticeable need for an after school haven for children. Cedar Hill CDC’s mission is to serve the low income residents of the Boonton area by working with sustained commitment to improve their quality of life in tangible ways.

Our foundation program is the Community After School Program (CASP), a high quality after school program that provides a safe and nurturing place for children and youth from kindergarten to 6 th grade who live at or below the poverty level. CASP provides academic and emotional support, an outdoor playground and jungle gym, a computer lab, and an arts center - a safe and engaging environment away from the street. Until we opened our doors, these families were forced to leave their children unattended and unsupervised while they worked full time jobs and in many case several jobs.

On a regular basis, the program also offers the children one-on-one mentoring with Big Brothers, Big Sisters and students from Mountain Lakes High School, Taekwondo instruction from a martial arts expert, yoga sessions provided by a well-practiced yogi as well as a visual and performing arts curriculum. We have expanded the program to engage former CASP children who are in seventh through ninth grades to give back through our junior mentoring program.
