ORGANIZATION: Interfaith Works

The Community Vision program of Interfaith Works has a vibrant Vocational Counseling and Services Program which needs your help. There are a number of opportunities from which to choose, and you can choose one or more of the following: *Assist clients with resumes and online applications (work with applicants to develop or update resumes and complete online applications) *Check employment references (make calls to verify previous employment references) *Engage in mock interview practice (assist clients as they prepare for interviews using a standard list of questions along with the client's resume) *Become a tutor for a client working toward his/her GED (choose to work one-on-one or with a small group in pre-GED training) *Assist clients in computer literacy (work with one or more clients in our computer lab as they strive to master the Microsoft Office Suite) *Assist clients interested in improving English reading and writing skills (work on an individual or small-group basis with ESL clients using published materials and interactive computer programs) *Become a mentor to a newly working client (offer advice, encouragement, and be a role model for a client)

Volunteers set an example for our clients and must have experience in aspects of human resources or training, and present themselves as professionals.

Altogether, Interfaith Works serves over 16,000 people annually. Our goal is for Montgomery County to have the lowest poverty rate in Maryland.

Interfaith Works is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency and a non-sectarian interfaith coalition of more than 165 affiliated congregations of diverse faiths, working together to meet the needs of the poor and homeless in Montgomery County, Maryland. Our programs shelter, clothe, and feed our neighbors in need and provide supportive services with the goal of helping them achieve self-sufficiency. Our mission is to pursue social justice with an emphasis on identifying and meeting the needs of the poor by leading and engaging Montgomery County's faith communities in service, education, and advocacy.
