America for Animals is a new type of animal welfare organization - one that empowers advocates to promote compassion and fight cruelty in the communities where they live. We do this by developing state-of-the-art web and mobile applications that make it easy and fun to help animals. Our apps are designed to help people find humane places to eat, meet like-minded advocates, campaign to end inhumane practices, and take other simple actions that make the world kinder for our four-legged friends.

AFA is looking for a research coordinator to build, maintain, and expand the databases that we use for our apps. These databases include all of the information that goes into the apps and is seen by the user. More specifically, this position would build your experience...

* Build and manage a team of volunteer animal advocate web researchers to address issues such as, Where are the humane restaurants in a given city? How can we track the use of marine mammals across the country? Where can we find the most reliable data on animal welfare nonprofit organizations?

* Team recruitment, volunteer onboarding, and ongoing management. This includes things like project assignments, periodic contribution assessments, and keeping the team inspired.

* Database management: Consider how to structure the data for ease of maintenance and expansion.

* Initially, this position will also be a contributor position while the team is being built and the methods are being determined. Contributions during crunch time will also be needed.

* A technology background is not required. But the more proficient you are with research and databases, the better.

* A willingness to reply quickly to emails and work well with a team.

* The ability to lead and inspire others.

* 5 hours per week (more welcome!)
