Close the Gap Classroom

Our organization needs executive board members to help establish and execute our major goals and objectives by: implementing policies established by the board of directors, providing leadership, direction and guidance to the organization's activities, analyzing and evaluating the effectiveness of the organization operations; developing and maintaining the organizational structure and providing accountability for individual board member responsibilities; coordinating specific activities as delegated by the board; representing the organization to regulatory bodies, other agencies, community and civic organizations, donors, funders and supporters, and the general public as assigned by the board.

Our Model Instruction Program results in exemplary success. It pairs a tutor to encourage and keep the learner on task during virtual reading instruction. Consistent attenders 2 hrs weekly for 10 weeks are near/reach their grade level in reading. Our mission for children is mastery of reading skills by grade 4, because that factor is highly correlated with avoiding incarceration, high school graduation and continued education, and more employment opportunities.

We need your business acumen, so we can improve the future for more struggling readers. Call Dr. Dorothy Young with your questions. 618-407-8055

Mission Statement

The mission of the Reading Success Center is to make reading improvement services available to nonprofit groups that already have clients/members to be served.

Description

We assist other nonprofits in building self-sustaining reading improvement programs. While that takes place, we are also providing tutorial services. Once the new program has adequate volunteers and is self-sustaining, we will help another nonprofit in the same way.

The Boys & Girls Club West in St. Peters MO has provided an excellent room for these services. After-school tutoring began November 07, 6 weeks of Summer Reading Camps were held in 08 and after-school tutoring continues. We will need volunteer tutors for 7 weeks this summer as we serve children K-6 and older counselors A FREE 12 NOON LUNCH FOLLOWED BY READING AND OTHER ACTIVITIES UNTIL 2 PM. We are very short on volunteers to enable this project. Please give your time to prevent summer slide and build new READING SKILLS.
