Help Desk Volunteer
The Lancaster Public Library is seeking volunteers who enjoy working with the public, are resourceful, and are motivated to learn more about all aspects of library operations, to staff a newly created position as Library Guide. The volunteer will welcome patrons at the door, answer questions, promote programs and help to register individuals if interesed. Individuals will be trained and will gain familiarity with many aspects of library operations including but not limited to: location of collections, computer knowledge and ability to help people with copiers and printers, familiarity with staff and their responsibilities, awareness of programs, knowledge of how to search the library catalog on the computer and familiarity with the Dewey Decimal System, and an ability to direct our patrons to the information or persons they are seeking.
Positions will be open afternoon Monday through Friday. Volunteers must be 18 years or older and able to commit for a year to a 3 hour shift per week or every other week, from 1-4pm. Shifts will be scheduled monthly. Knowledge of Spanish and other languages is helpful but not required.

Description
As one of the oldest public libraries in the country, Lancaster Public Library has been providing library service in Lancaster for over 260 years. Lancaster Public Library has two locations in the county including the main branch at 125 N. Duke Street in the City of Lancaster and the Mountville Branch at 120 College Avenue in Mountville.
Our free public library services include:

In addition to basic library services, Lancaster Public Library offers special and unique information services to specific groups of individuals in the community like the Duke Street Business Center, the World Languages Collection, and the Autism Resource Collection.
