We Essex County RAIN (Reaching Adults In Need) Foundation, a group of passionate people with a goal helping Essex County young adults get off the streets and in safe housing. We want them to succeed in life as we offer services to help stabilize them on their walk to becoming more self-sufficient.
We need help with board development, fundraising, graphic & web design, marketing plan development, copy writing, financial reporting (CPA), Human Resources, volunteer recruitment, and more. Have you worked in transitional housing? Are you good at organizing, planning and supporting small organizations with big visions to help the community? Then this foundation is the organization for you!
We have a list of volunteer opportunities which is currently active on Volunteer Match. Please consider reviewing them to see where you can provide your expertise in helping us grow.
There are so many nonprofits experiencing challenges with funding and even moreso ones that address the LGBTQ+ community. Our doors have been opened since 2013!!! A wonderful wonderful milestone. Over the years we've helped countless young adults from ALL backgrounds and walks of life and would love to level up in our outreach to them and to donors who can help fill in the gaps on what grants cannot cover.
Thank you in advance!!

Mission Statement
Our mission is to help individuals by providing transitional housing solutions to address the emergent need of LGBT individuals experiencing crisis leading to homelessness. Through integrated solutions we offer educational & financial responsibility resources as well as wrap around services in substance abuse and mental health counseling and drug testing. We are dedicated to bringing opportunities to troubled individuals in Greater Newark and surrounding communities.
Description
People are identifying publicly as LGBT at younger ages than in the past. Many LGBT individuals face harassment, violence, stigma, rejection, and discrimination in their families, schools, employment, and social settings. LGBT youth face the ire and rejection of unaccepting family members and are often unable to access traditional shelter settings when they find themselves homeless through no fault of their own. Although Essex County has one of the highest rates of homelessness in New Jersey, there is a woeful lack of services for LGBT individuals in this community.
We work to offer:
- Career Planning and Employment Preparation
- Life Skills Training
- Develop Comprehensive Evaluation Tool to determine outcomes and identify critical issues and gaps in services
