ORGANIZATION: Our Sisters' School

Position Summary:

We are seeking energetic, enthusiastic and talented individuals to join our staff as AmeriCorps Volunteer Teachers. OSS
classroom teachers serve as role models for OSS students through teaching, supervising, coaching, tutoring, and mentoring,
while ensuring excellence in academic and interpersonal achievement for all our students.

Qualifications/Skills:

0B7 Bachelors degree and history of success in academics required
0B7 Experience working with children/youth of different socio-economic & cultural backgrounds preferred
0B7 Involvement in athletics, clubs and/or community service activities preferred
0B7 Strong public speaking and written and verbal communication skills
0B7 Excellent interpersonal skills
0B7 Superior organization and time management skills
0B7 Portuguese or Spanish bilingual preferred
0B7 Proficiency

Responsibilities:

0B7 Teach core academic and/or enrichment classes, and assess and report on student progress
0B7 Coach and direct after school athletic programs and clubs
0B7 Supervise evening study and grade-level field trips
0B7 Oversee other staff duties such as morning meeting, student lunches, and passing periods; professional responsibilities
for community spaces and coordination/coverage for school activities
0B7 Assist OSS with building and refining the infrastructure and culture of our school
0B7 Effectively manage classroom environment and supervise student activities
0B7 Support development of grade level curriculum, including developing lesson plans and pacing guides
0B7 Serve as advisor and advocate for an assigned group of students
0B7 Collaborate with lead teachers to ensure that students receive remediation and support as needed
0B7 Attend academic events with students and families during the school day, in the evenings, and on weekends throughout
the school year as requested
0B7 Collaborate with colleagues at grade level, subject area, faculty, staff and committee meetings and staff retreats
0B7 Attend events to conduct recruiting/outreach for students, teachers and volunteers, and to raise support for the school
0B7 Represent OSS at community fundraisers and events as requested
0B7 Assist with Student Recruitment
0B7 Other duties as assigned

Compensation:

0B7 Housing & utilities provided by the school
0B7 Monthly $325.00 living allowance, August through June, provided by the school
0B7 Lunches provided by school families, and a $150.00 monthly food/expense stipend provided by the school
0B7 AmeriCorps Education Award upon completion of one year of service in the program. This award can be used to pay
back federal student loans or for graduate-school tuition (Award was $5550.00 for 2013-2014. See
www.americorps.org for additional information and restrictions and current award amounts).
0B7 Employer offered health insurance and dental coverage
0B7 YMCA membership (membership provided by the school following application for financial assistance)
0B7 Paid Time Off (PTO) in accordance with OSS personnel policies

Our Sisters' School seeks to foster the intellectual, moral, social and physical development of its students, and to nurture in a small-school setting the full potential of their characters. Since Opening Day in September 2008, the school's faculty and staff have worked closely with students' families and other volunteers, building ties between school and community, and developing the kinds of personal and institutional support that will ensure the continuing success of our students in high school, college, and in later life.
