In a partnership with local treatment centers, the American Cancer Society offers a free transportation service to patients receiving radiation or chemotherapy cancer treatments. Currently our volunteer-base is not able to meet the needs of patients seeking assistance. With more than 7000 new cases each year and many who are seeking transportation assistance. We are committed to saving more lives but we need your help. We are looking for additional volunteers to serve as Road to Recovery drivers. Road to Recovery is an American Cancer Society program where volunteers donate their time and the use of their vehicle to get patients to the treatments that will save their lives. For the volunteers the program is flexible and rewarding. Volunteers must have a good driving record, proof of insurance, and be willing to accept a ride request at least four times each year. For every request, drivers have the ability to refuse or accept the request based on their availability. Requests are delivered as needed so a formal availability schedule is not required. Our volunteers develop wonderful friendships with the patients they take to and from treatment and enjoy being able to make a direct impact on someone’s life in such a brief amount of time. To learn more you can visit www.cancer.org/volunteer or call 1.800.227.2345. We urge you to forward this listing to anyone else you think of that may also want to join us in creating a world with less cancer and more birthdays!
