A good education is key to a bright future. But without the right tools, children face incredible odds. That is why many teachers are willing to reach into their own pockets to provide educational materials for their students. Sadly the costs can get overwhelming. That is why Feed The Children opened the Teacher Store in 2010. The goal is to reach as many Pre-K through 12th-grade students as possible by providing books and educational materials to full-time teachers in the local public school district.

In November 2013 Feed The Children's distribution center in La Vergne, Tennessee opened its Teacher Store. We are now looking for volunteers who can help us to sort and stock materials, books and office supplies in our new Teacher Store. If you are looking for a way to impact education in your area, contact us now! Whether you have 1 hour or 4 hours to volunteer, you are always needed at Feed The Children.

Mission Statement

Feed The Children is a non-profit organization that strives to complete its mission: "Providing hope and resources for those without life’s essentials". With volunteers, we prepare, pack and send food and hygiene boxes to families in need across the United States.

Description

What We Do

Founded in 1979 and headquartered in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Feed The Children is one of the largest international charities based in the U.S. With the mission of providing hope and resources for those without life’s essentials, Feed The Children is a BBB Wise Giving Alliance accredited charity and uses a comprehensive and integrated program to combat hunger and poverty. Feed The Children addresses four basic needs: food and nutrition, water and sanitation, education and health, and livelihood community development. In addition to helping families and communities around the world achieve lasting self-sufficiency, Feed The Children also responds quickly in times of disaster to provide emergency supplies for those in need.

U.S. Programs

Here in the U.S., Feed The Children partners with over 1,200 local agencies, including food pantries, churches, and soup kitchens, to distribute meals and necessities to more than 400,000 families nationwide. Additionally, Feed The Children supplies backpacks filled with ready-to-eat meals, toothbrushes, school supplies and age appropriate books to homeless students enrolled in public schools with the hope of providing a sense of normalcy for children.

To date, Feed The Children has distributed 650,000 backpacks and will be providing an additional 60,000 in the upcoming year. Another half-a-million children receive school supplies or children’s book each year through education-focused projects, while the Teacher’s Store program provides much-needed schools supplies and resources to teachers, free of charge.

Around the World

Internationally, Feed The Children serves in more than 15 countries, including El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Kenya, Nicaragua, Malawi, the Philippines, Tanzania, and Uganda, with the goal of providing hope and resources to those in need. 350,000 hot and nutritious meals are supplied daily to children through school and community-based feeding programs. Feed The Children has also successfully implemented clean water practices, facilitated point-of-use purification, and constructed latrines and installation of community wells. And in the past year alone, Feed The Children was able to provide 14 million children with de-worming medications and treat 13,500 patients in its medical clinics.
