The YMCA Center for Young Adults is looking for passionate and dedicated career mentors who would like to support a young adult in reaching their fullest potential in their career.

This is a one-on-one, career-based mentoring program in which you will serve as a role model and guide to a young adult (18-25 years old) who has experienced foster care and/or homelessness and is working to gain independence and stability.

The volunteer will meet with their mentee to support them in identifying and working toward their career-related goals. After an initial informational interview/match meeting, there may be an opportunity to transition into a longer-term (6 month) career mentorship if both parties agree. The pair will then continue meeting regularly for 2-4 hours per month to support and guide the young adult as she or he explores career and educational aspirations. Matching will be based on geographic location, the young adult's career and/or educational interests, and the volunteer's area of expertise.

Though all are encouraged to apply, we are specifically looking for a career mentor who has experience in electrical/mechanical engineering (or a other similar hands-on career field).

Mission Statement

The mission of the YMCA of Greater Seattle is "Building a community where all people, especially the young, are encouraged to develop their fullest potential in spirit, mind and body."

Our young adult programs provide opportunities and resources for young people to set their own goals as they move from foster care or homelessness. Our 2009-2010 program priorities guide our work.

The YMCA is part of the Transition Collaborative, a group of public and private organizations dedicated to improving the lives of young people leaving foster care. We are also actively involved in the Committee To End Homelessness and are a member organization of Foster Care Alumni of America.
