Rape Crisis Center is always looking for new volunteers to help with our mission and assist with our necessary services. We do require that all volunteers complete our agency-specific 20-hour training prior to volunteering. We are always grateful for those willing to dedicate their time, talents, and gifts to our agency and the clients we serve!

Duties that volunteers can help with include: community outreach, office assistance, organizing, answering our phone line, greeting office visitors, assisting in court, and more.

If you're interested in learning more about the Rape Crisis Center and how you can help us, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Kate Wimberly.

Mission Statement

It is the mission of Rape Crisis Center of Catawba County, Incorporated as a non-profit human services agency to:

  • provide crisis assistance, advocacy, and support to victims of sexual assault;

Description

The Rape Crisis Center of Catawba County is a very progressive grassroots non-profit organization, working to make positive impacts in the lives of those living in Catawba County, North Carolina. Our primary service is to the victims of sexual assault and rape. These services are designed to assist the victim throughout his/her period of healing. Some of our services, to victims of sexual assault, include: 24-hour crisis intervention, support services & referrals, support groups, court accompaniment, and on-site counsling.

We also work to stop sexual violence where it starts, in our communities. Through progressive educational programming, we are able to educate members of the public about sexual violence and things that can be done to stop it. Our Outreach Department is busy every month educating groups of people - from school-aged children to groups of senior citizens - about sexual assault and how we can all join together to stop it.

In addition to the many programs and services we offer, Rape Crisis Center of Catawba County also coordinates our local Sexual Assault Response Team (S.A.R.T.). S.A.R.T. is a county-wide initiative designed to build communication and collaboration between agencies serving victims of sexual assault. Working with community leaders and agencies, we hold an annual regional conference for S.A.R.T. professionals to provide up-to-date training and materials to keep the cycle of service open to all victims of sexual assault.

Our agency is dynamic, progressive, and on the cutting edge of meeting the needs of our clients. The following pages in this section will provide you with more detail about what exactly Rape Crisis Center of Catawba County is doing for you. We hope that through this information, you will understand why we are here and in the unfortunate event you become a victim of sexual assault - you can know and trust that Rape Crisis Center will be here with you. Our job is complex, but easily captured when we say: "Turning victims into SURVIVORS!"
