Volunteer financial coaches for Innovative Changes work one-on-one with low/moderate income clients to teach personal financial management skills as well as to engage and motivate clients to stay on track towards their goals.
Volunteers recieve 7 hours of training in financial coaching which provides them with the tools and skills needed to guide clients as they develop a plan of action to reach their financial goals, and achieve financial stability.
Responsibilities:
- commit to 6 months in the program, volunteering at least once per month for an hour.
- Engage with a client related to their personal financial goals involving: reducing debt, improving credit to receive lower interest loans, start saving for emergencies, and build assets.
- Observe, listen and ask questions to understand the client's situation.
- Use questioning techniques to facilitate the client's own thought processes to identify solutions and actions rather than take a directive approach.
- Maintain unconditional positive regard for the client, and at all times supportive and non-judgmental of the client, their views, lifestyle and aspirations.
- Assist clients in resolving current financial situations while shifting the approach to proactive financial management and stability.
- Evaluate the outcomes of the process, using objective measures to ensure the relationship is successful and the client is achieving their financial goals.

Mission Statement
Established in 2009, Innovative Changes is a non profit organization that exists to help low-income individuals and families, and those who otherwise lack adequate access to capital and/or financial services, manage short-term financial needs in order to achieve and maintain household stability.
Description
Our customer intake and lending process includes "in touch" education that takes the access we provide to personal finance as an opportunity to inform consumer choices at the point of transaction. In addition, we offer tailored one-on-one counseling that addresses the root causes of our clients’ financial challenges, and group workshops that focus on common areas of concern such as basic household budgeting, successful banking, and building, repairing and protecting credit.
