ORGANIZATION: Reading Connections, Inc

Reading Connections provides adult literacy classes in the Detention Center in Greensboro. Currently, there is a need for volunteer instructors from 2-4pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the 201 South Edgeworth Street site. Literacy instruction includes lessons in reading, writing, math and life skills. Classes are small and led by tutors.

Reading Connections provides volunteers with orientation, resources and training. Volunteers will complete an interview with the Detention Center Coordinator and then attend orientation and training. Training includes shadowing a current instructor to learn our process. Each learning cycle is 10 weeks and volunteers are asked to select Tuesday or Thursday of each cycle.

Requirements: Successfully pass an extensive background check. High School Diploma; previous work with marginalized/incarcerated people; college degree preferred.
