Community Partners Program
The Texas Hunger Initiative has teamed up with the Texas Health and Human Services Commission to help community and faith-based organizations alike become Community Partners and offer these services for FREE. Our office has been hard at work connecting churches and organizations of all types, all year long! Volunteers will assist families in applying for Federal Benefits utilizing YourTexasBenifits.com the web portal through the Health and Human Service Commission. Assistance is needed at local churches, agencies, and events.

Mission Statement
We are a collaboration...
The Texas Hunger Initiative (THI) is a capacity-building and collaborative project. We seek to develop and implement strategies to end hunger through policy, education, community organizing, and community development.
whose goal is to end hunger in Texas.
We seek to make the state food secure by ensuring that every individual has access to three healthy meals a day, seven days a week.
The need is great-Texas is the second hungriest state in the nation.
Almost 20% of Texans are food insecure. In 2010 there were 4,672,780 food insecure people in Texas. Texans either experienced hunger outright or altered their consumption patterns to avoid hunger. Texas's Child Food Insecurity Rate in 2010 was 27.1% which includes 1,845,670 children and places Texas 11th highest in child food insecurity in the nation. More than 2.3 million Texas students get a free or reduced price lunch at school in 2011-2012; however, some of these children may not eat breakfast, go without food on the weekends and may eat inconsistently when schools are closed for the summer.
Description
We will gather people together to make plans and enact change.
THI convenes federal, state and local government stakeholders with non-profits, faith communities, and business leaders to create an efficient system of accountability that increases food security in Texas.
