Development Assistant
About L.A. Works: L.A. Works is a 501(c)3 nonprofit volunteer action center that creates and implements hands-on community service projects throughout the greater Los Angeles area. We strive to empower Angelenos to address pressing social issues through volunteerism and community collaborations.
Position Description: The Development Assistant will be responsible for developing, launching, cultivating, growing and managing partnerships with community and corporate partners. The individual will develop, document and implement a resource development system that increases in-kind resources provided by partners. The system can include plans to create marketing presentation kits for a variety of partners; plans to generate resources to fund programs; improvements to donor and community partnership tracking and recognition; improvements to recruitment and recognition of volunteers.
Responsibilities:
- Research potential partners (corporations and local businesses), including locating appropriate contacts
- Develop strong relationships with key staff at partners to facilitate execution and growth of partnerships
- Work with internal and partner leadership to define partnership goals
- Responsible for online donation management and acknowledgement within 48 hours of receipt, including immediate recognition of support with e-mail acknowledgements.
- Assist in the development and execution of a rewards program for L.A. Works’ volunteer base
Requirements: Bring passion and energy to the office each day!
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with all levels of executives, management and staff
- Ability to create process and structure in the midst of an unstructured internal environment
- Professional demeanor in dealing with partners
- Proven experience building relationships
- Ability to make cold calls
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and a positive outlook is a must
- One year of working in development preferred
Equipment Requirements: Laptop and internet access.
Hours: 10-15 hours a week. (Flexible)
Compensation: Unpaid. We can provide school credit, but all applicants must make their own arrangements with their host institution. Volunteers will benefit from this great learning experience, enhance their resumes, and build their personal and professional skills as they make a difference in the LA nonprofit community.
Location: The L.A. Works headquarters is in Cypress Park, close to Elysian Park at the NE corner of Dodger Stadium. We are accessible by the gold line.
Duration: Position is open year-round. Internship length is flexible, but with a minimum of 3 months.
