PA of NJ provides a 24-hour, 7 day-a-week Helpline/Stressline for parents to access information and referrals to community agencies. The purpose of the helpline is to provide support to parents before a crisis happens--so it serves as both intervention and prevention. The Helpline/Stressline is staffed by volunteers (NJ residents only) who graciously give their time to parents who need to talk. A 24-hour experiential training program is provided by PA staff. The requirements to volunteer--a willingness to help children by assisting parents and a caring nature. Calls may also be taken from one's own New Jersey home with the use of a call diverter.
