Volunteer will work directly with the Bilingual Outreach Coordinator from the Charlotte Mecklenburg Public Library and the Resource Center Coordinator from the Latin American Coalition to conduct a weekly bilingual storytime called "Conexiones que Cuentan." Each session is meant to engage Spanish speaking families in a fun and energetic learning environment while promoting early literacy, and strengthening the connection between parents and their young children. This position would be ideal for students or professionals in the following fields: Social Work, Education, Human Services, Latin American Studies, or Spanish..
Responsibilities:
• Assist Bilingual Outreach Coordinator from community partner agency with children’s activities. Activities may include: reading books, singing songs, and playing games in English and Spanish.
• Insure every participant signs in.
• Assist with set up and breakdown of room.
• Be prepared to lead the weekly session in the event that the Bilingual Outreach Coordinator must be absent.
Time Commitment: 2.5 hours per week. All volunteers and interns must attend an orientation with the Volunteer Coordinator session prior to start of service. Complete training with community partner agency and the Resource Center Coordinator.
Time Frame: 2 months
Availability: Every Friday 9:45AM-12:15PM
Skills/Requirements:
• Bilingual in English and Spanish. (At least an intermediate level in Spanish.)
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Great listener
• Exhibits compassion and respect to clients.
• Responsible individual
• Must enjoy working with children 0-5 years of age.
• Enthusiastic personality

We provide volunteers with flexible volunteer opportunities to create positive change. We simplify the process by organizing and promoting dozens of opportunities each month.
