The Chemo Pal Mentor Program pairs children and teens one-to-one with compassionate adults who offer supportive relationships throughout their chemotherapy or other cancer treatments. Chemo Pals are carefully selected from a wide range of personal and professional backgrounds. They spend time with young patients in hospitals, clinics and even at home to play games, take walks, read, do art projects, share hobbies and more.

This award-winning program gives kids a dependable, caring friend to lean on during a physically and emotionally wrenching time. It also can give parents a much needed break to grab a cup of coffee, take a nap or spend time with their other children.

Mission Statement

When seriously ill children, teens, and their families need more than medicine, CCA's innovative programs create joy one moment at a time.

Description

The Children’s Cancer Association didn’t start with a foundation, it started with a family. One who faced its own battle with serious pediatric illness almost two decades ago in Portland, Oregon. From that experience came a passionate commitment and focus: To deliver the resources, the friendship and the healing power of music to families facing the same challenges.

Unlike many organizations dedicated to the worthy goal of someday finding a cure for cancer, CCA is all about today. We specialize on the moment, delivering immediate help to kids and teens facing life-threatening illness. We long for the day when there’s a cure for cancer; but until that day arrives, we’re there for kids facing the biggest battle of their lives who need our help, today.
